A little fun fact about me: I don’t drink a lot of soda. I don’t know whether it’s the high sugar content, the strong carbonation, the added preservatives or what, but I just can’t do it. I can only make it through half a can before my stomach doesn’t start feeling so good.
Then last month I was in a Bed, Bath, & Beyond store and saw the Soda Stream. It really caught my eye and I thought the idea of making your own soda at home was quite genius. Not only that, but I thought maybe this was a way for me to find out if making your own soda would have a different effect on me than store bought.
So today I’m partnering up with Soda Stream to bring you my full review. Their company graciously sent me the Soda Stream Fountain Jet starter kit which included the sample pack of flavors, the carbonator, and one re-useable bottle. They also sent me a variety of bottled flavors to try.
The first thing I really loved about the Soda Stream is that you don’t have to plug it in. To set it up, all you do is insert the carbonator into the back of the machine. Once that’s done you just fill up your re-usable bottle with COLD water and screw it into the machine. Then you just push the button on the top of the machine three times for average carbonation, and more if you like your soda extra fizzy.
Another thing I really loved was that they aren’t just all about soda. Soda Stream makes water flavors too! That means you can add the flavor right to a nice glass of cold water and enjoy. But the thing I really love to do is carbonate the water and then add the flavor. And viola, you’ve got some fancy sparkling raspberry water. Or maybe you like lemon-lime or orange instead.
Now here’s the BIG kicker. Each of the times I’ve used the Soda Stream, I only pushed the carbonation button 3 times like the directions suggest. I have made three different flavors of soda so far, and NONE of them have upset my stomach. The first time I tried it out, I made Root Beer. That has been one soda I haven’t had in a year or more because it’s the worst for upsetting my stomach. But now thanks to Soda Stream, I drink an entire glass. Totally not kidding you on this one.
Now you might think I’m crazy, but I’m telling you that this thing is amazing. I’m pretty sure that has something to do with choosing your own amount of carbonation. I also think it’s because none of the Soda Stream flavors contain high fructose corn syrup or aspartame. I especially love the Ginger Ale flavor, which says “Natural” right on the bottle. The orange soda is pretty delicious too.
If you’re looking to save money on soda, change to a healthier soda option (I know some of you just can’t kick old habits), or give this as a gift to someone you know — I would highly recommend it! I’ve been using my Soda Stream for a few weeks now and absolutely love it. I have finally found a way to quench my soda cravings while not feeling like crap afterwords. Thank you Soda Stream!
