It’s Nothing Against Soda

A little fun fact about me: I don’t drink a lot of soda. I don’t know whether it’s the high sugar content, the strong carbonation, the added preservatives or what, but I just can’t do it. I can only make it through half a can before my stomach doesn’t start feeling so good.

Then last month I was in a Bed, Bath, & Beyond store and saw the Soda Stream. It really caught my eye and I thought the idea of making your own soda at home was quite genius. Not only that, but I thought maybe this was a way for me to find out if making your own soda would have a different effect on me than store bought.

So today I’m partnering up with Soda Stream to bring you my full review. Their company graciously sent me the Soda Stream Fountain Jet starter kit which included the sample pack of flavors, the carbonator, and one re-useable bottle. They also sent me a variety of bottled flavors to try.

The first thing I really loved about the Soda Stream is that you don’t have to plug it in. To set it up, all you do is insert the carbonator into the back of the machine. Once that’s done you just fill up your re-usable bottle with COLD water and screw it into the machine. Then you just push the button on the top of the machine three times for average carbonation, and more if you like your soda extra fizzy.

Another thing I really loved was that they aren’t just all about soda. Soda Stream makes water flavors too! That means you can add the flavor right to a nice glass of cold water and enjoy. But the thing I really love to do is carbonate the water and then add the flavor. And viola, you’ve got some fancy sparkling raspberry water. Or maybe you like lemon-lime or orange instead.

Now here’s the BIG kicker. Each of the times I’ve used the Soda Stream, I only pushed the carbonation button 3 times like the directions suggest. I have made three different flavors of soda so far, and NONE of them have upset my stomach. The first time I tried it out, I made Root Beer. That has been one soda I haven’t had in a year or more because it’s the worst for upsetting my stomach. But now thanks to Soda Stream, I drink an entire glass. Totally not kidding you on this one.

Now you might think I’m crazy, but I’m telling you that this thing is amazing. I’m pretty sure that has something to do with choosing your own amount of carbonation. I also think it’s because none of the Soda Stream flavors contain high fructose corn syrup or aspartame. I especially love the Ginger Ale flavor, which says “Natural” right on the bottle. The orange soda is pretty delicious too.

If you’re looking to save money on soda, change to a healthier soda option (I know some of you just can’t kick old habits), or give this as a gift to someone you know — I would highly recommend it! I’ve been using my Soda Stream for a few weeks now and absolutely love it. I have finally found a way to quench my soda cravings while not feeling like crap afterwords. Thank you Soda Stream!

Disclaimer: This Soda Stream machine and the variety of flavors seen here were sent to me for reviewing purposes, but my opinions are honest and 100% my own. I would not recommend it if I didn’t fully believe in the company and their products!

I try not to drink a lot of soda, but I do love some Coke sometimes. My brother in law has this soda stream and he’s obsessed with it! Soda with no stomach aches… yay!!

I’d always been very curious about the Soda Stream. I’m one of those people who’s totally obsessive about soda, I absolutely love it… but I don’t really love all of the HFCS I end up ingesting due to my little habit… plus, it’s an expensive habit. I’ve wondered whether or not the Soda Stream might be a more affordable alternative or not…

I am very glad that you got to review this product, because I have been giving it strange glances every time I see it. I didn’t know how well it would taste, but I may just have to give it a try. I think it would be a great gift for my mom… too bad I missed it for Mother’s Day! Still searching for that perfect gift for dad. I don’t think he would appreciate the flavored water like my mom though… (and with all this gabbing, you see why I haven’t been able to pick anything yet! lol) Thanks for the review!

My husband can go through a 2 liter of Mt. Dew in a day, so this might be a good option. It looks cool at least!

I don’t drink “traditional” soda, either…but just because I don’t really want the calories/sugar & I like drinking other things anyway! I’ve been wondering about the Soda Stream for a while, though. I want to get one, they seem so cool! :)

I love this idea! That way you don’t have a lot of pop sitting in your house all the time. You just make as you need.

Dude, I always saw the infomercials for this and was like, I want to taste that before I buy it. Slightly more likely to check it out now. :)

Soda Stream is fantastic! My in-laws have one and we use it ALL the time. Such a fantastic little contraption!

I also really love the flavored water concept. The soda stream looks so much fun :) How many calories is in a serving of the natural soda flavor? The root beer, for example?

I would be really interested in buying this! Great review Danielle!

I wanted to get this for a long time and we tried a sample in our local store and it was so sweet that and I got the “stomach” feeling. Is it really all the how much carbonation that you put in it? Because I really want one!

I’ve never been much of a soda drinker, not even when I was younger because my parents didn’t buy a lot of sodas and junk food. Now that I’m older, I don’t drink sodas because they’re super unhealthy, but this might be worth a try as a way to get the flavor a sodas without as much of the unhealthy ingredients.

I’ve been seeing a ton if commercials for this. I’m glad to see an honest review. How much does it cost??

Hey Danielle. First making your own soda? Wow! I’m an addict so I may have to try that! :) anyways I know I stopped by here before but I never actually introduced myself. Just saw your q&a on covered in grace…and I always love reading the basics of why bloggers started and do what they do! Plus you said you love meeting other bloggers…haha do here I am saying hi! so nice to meet you:)

I have seen these in stores too and wondered what they were all about. They sound pretty cool! I do have a question for you -when you review things, do you contact the company or do they randomly contact you?

Now this is something that I would probably love! I do drink a lot of soda (well I did). For the last 6 weeks I only allow myself one a day if that. I used to have way more too! But if this is all natural then it could be my new best friend! :-)
