I feel like I have so many things running through my head but can't share them.
As many of you know, I'll be moving into my new apartment in two short weeks.
I am seriously so excited to have a place of my own but I'm nervous and scared too.
Moving into a new place means I'll be moving all my clothes, decor, etc. all over again.
August also means the starts of a new school year.
Not many of you know this but I'm a Pre-Pharm student.
The coursework is difficult, so much so that I'm only taking three classes.
Those three being Oganic Chemistry, Microbiology, and Communications/Speech.
It may not seem like much, but those three classes add up to a full-time, 13-hour schedule.
I'm also continuing to work my part-time job every other weekend.
However, when it comes to my dear blog I'm a little unsure as of what to do.
With my schedule, I don't think I'll have time to post 4 times per week like usual.
I'm also not sure I could keep up with the e-mails, group giveaways, and sponsorships.
Many decisions have been going through my mind this week and I have no idea what to do.
Today I am asking for your listening skills and your support.
As readers and paying sponsors, I value what you have to say greatly.
I have so many questions running through my head and I need a place to vent.
Do I continue to blog throughout the school year, but limit it to once a week?
If so, what happens to my weekly Current Crush link-up?
Do I quit the blog all together? If so, will my readers and sponsors miss me?
Will I miss the blog? Of course I will, there's no doubt about that.
Blogging gives me a sense of community and relationships I value.
Blogging gives me a sense of community and relationships I value.
Then there are my sponsors...how would they feel about all of this?
Will they feel like they've paid for nothing or will they support my decision?
Do I quit sponsorships all together and remove my ads?
What is the best thing for me? What changes need to be made?
It seems like I'm not the only one questioning myself.
There are a lot of bloggers talking about the blogging community.
Personally, I feel like many bloggers (including myself) have lost their perspective.
Personally, I feel like many bloggers (including myself) have lost their perspective.
They have gotten so caught up in the numbers, the linky parties, and the monthly giveaways.
Now, I'm not saying that if you do those things that you're a bad blogger by any means.
I'm just simply stating that I've noticed some changes and I want to take a step back.
The blogging community is supposed to be just that.
A community. A place where we can help each other grow and encourage.
A place where we can share our feelings without the fear of being judged harshly.
I'm at a new and exciting place in my life and I want my blog to reflect that.
I need to look back on the reason I started blogging and move forward with that.
The reason being that I wanted to share my journey through school with all of you.
So that at the end of this, I'll have something to look back on and a way to remember.
I want to remember what I did, how I made a difference, and see my growth as a person.
Not the growth of my blog. It's not about the numbers. It's about me as a person. As a leader.
As of today you'll see that my Sponsor page is no longer accepting certain ad sizes.
This is because I plan on changing my sponsorship program in September.
In the past few months I've lost focus on the goals I had for my blog.
I've lost focus on what I can do to help others in this community.
We're all leaders and we all want to grow, all in our own way.
After all, that's why you bought an ad on my blog, right?
To grow and gain exposure for your shop/blog.
As you can tell, there are so many questions going through my mind.
I know that I want to see changes in my blog, but I'm just not quite sure how to get there.
I know that I want to see changes in my blog, but I'm just not quite sure how to get there.
All I ask is that you're patient with me in the upcoming weeks as the new school year starts.
I'm going to take some time to think about everything, pack up, and move to my new place.
After all of that is said and done, I'll be back and hopefully with a fresh perspective.
Until then, you can find me on Twitter or send me an e-mail with questions/concerns.

Microbiology was so fun! It's a lot to memorize but so interesting!!
ReplyDeleteI get it. Sometimes the things we do for our creative outlet can morph into a type of job which changes the joy it originally had.
ReplyDeleteI've enjoyed reading your blog and I've learned quite a lot by your tutorials (most memorable=passionfruitads). You have a really good sense of style. You are seriously good at this. I will continue to read your blog...no matter how few posts you write. And if you take a break I'll respect that too.
Lastly, don't allow feelings of guilt to dictate your decision. Your blog is a gift...not an obligation. !:)
Wishing you the best as you make your changes. :)
I totally get what you're saying. It's really easy to get caught up in all this internet stuff that you put the important things in life on the back burner. My advice is to stop your sponsorship program/giveaways/reviews for the school year or just do sidebar only ads for super cheap. This way, you don't feel obligated or pressured to post for your paying sponsors. This is what I am doing while abroad, since I know I won't have the time to post regularly. Honestly, if you don't have the sponsor thing to be obligated to, you can post whenever & how ever many times you want and not feel bad about it.
ReplyDeleteAll your readers will TOTALLY understand the cut back and I can guarantee that no one will be mad about any of your changes. Heck, anyone who has gone through college knows how time consuming it is...and they all know that managing a blog takes a lot of time (that you don't have).
Even if you post once a week, or even once every few weeks, it will be fine. And it will be even more exciting when someone sees a new post pop up. Heck, I'm probably not going to post more than once a week while abroad (if that). Sure, I may lose readers, but I'm not too concerned about it. I know I need to take the time to focus on school & other things, and not be wrapped up in blogland. It's hard to step back from things, but a lot of times you will find that you will come out of it more refreshed.
Okay, this is LONG...woops. Hope it helps you make your decision! Just do what's best for YOU and don't worry about any of us...we will survive. lol
Agreed 100%. Do what is right for you Danielle!
DeleteJust finished reading the post in full (I always comment before I finish reading. such a bad habit!) Anyway, just do what you need to for school but yes, as a reader, I will miss seeing your posts because you are so inspiring in so many ways! Good luck with school! I'll be cutting back myself due to nursing school :)
ReplyDeleteDon't feel guilty at all! Take the time you need for things to settle. You'll find a groove that works for you and when you find the time and it's right, then your blog and all of your friends will be here. Sometimes you have to take a step back in order to re-prioritize everything in front of you. You are a smart and talented girl and you'll find your balance.
ReplyDeleteGood for you Danielle- It's OK to focus on yourself and take a break. I love blogging but feel my time is very much in demand, and for not much money. Yes, I love the community and that will never change, but we need to be more understanding and less judgmental of one another's time. Just because someone doesn't return your comment, follow, or tweet doesn't mean they are a**holes... jus sayin :) Blog when you want and how you want and find a balance that works for you. Make up your own rules. I've definitely had rough patches where I wondered if I should keep blogging or not, and mostly worry if my sponsors will be pissed if I cut back. I'd like to hear more opinions on that. Take your time sweet girl and put YOU first.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly how you feel because I've been going through exactly the same thing! I almost considered abandoning my blog too although it isn't as well established as yours. Sometimes real life has to cone first and your readers should appreciate that. Don't feel under pressure to blog 4 times a week just blog as often as you can manage. One week that might be once the next it might be three times depending on how things are going. If you have people that a happy to take over some of your links for you then they can keep going - and then you can just link up instead until life settles a little more.
ReplyDeleteI can give this advice now but I've been there and I get the feeling lots of other bloggers are too right now and it's only the support of the community that got me through - you'll miss it and we will miss you!

This is one of the reasons I can't start a sponsorship program. Or sell my designs. I think once I make blogging a commitment I won't be able to enjoy it as much. I started to blog to document our first year of marriage. And then as an outlet. Today my husband said he'd pay me to stop blogging. I kind of feel that's a hint that maybe I am investing too much time and dedication into it. I love the community - but I think if blog when you want to blog your posts with shine. No one really needs to read all the fluff. Your readers and sponsors should thank you for it.
ReplyDeleteStay focused on school...organic Chen is a killer and your readers will understand :)
ReplyDeleteSince I've started blogging ive honestly aspired to be like you in regards to blogging, I've looked up to how organized you are and involved with everything you are. So as a reader, I love you AND your blog, and totally understand how you are feeling. Remember when I emailed you way back when feeling super overwhelmed by a blogging schedule and you said just post whenever you want and don't worry about sticking to a strict schedule? Well that has worked amazingly for me, and now that's my advice to you. Blog whenever you want about whatever you want. Don't set a certain number of posts, just write when you feel like writing. Also youve made so many great friends through blogging, so don't leave us forever! You'll get a balance Danielle xoxo ps I'm always here to chat if you're stressing and need to vent!
ReplyDeleteDanielle, I completely understand. I hope you find the clarity that you are looking for.
ReplyDeleteI am SO glad you posted this, Danielle. For so many reasons. One of the main ones is me being right there with you. I'm heading into my senior year of college and I'll be working weekends at the restaurant as well as being a media head and an editor for my school paper - oh and helping run my college's social media. To say I'm very concerned about being over-extended is an understatement. You have got to focus on you and know that your readers will still be here when you get back. Know that your friends will support you through all of it, and know that you're doing the right thing for you.
ReplyDeleteI have complete faith and belief that you will find a balance, you will figure out how to make blogging yours again and I think that will be such a weight-lifting discovery. The changes you are contemplating are changes so worth making because it will mean you get to reclaim your blog for you.
I feel a current of this going through blogland. I'm reevaluating, too. We can reevaluate together, and we'll come out stronger on the other side, and better bloggers, more genuine bloggers and more true to our visions to boot!
You're an amazing, strong, beautiful-souled girl Danielle. Just know that and trust that the rest will work itself out.
Do what you need to do. Even though I just started this whole blogging adventure, I know I'll need to cut back when school starts. I'm teaching at a new school. I'll miss your posts, because they're always so fun to read. But you have to do what's best for you and your life!
ReplyDeleteI had a baby last September, graduated college in May and am moving this weekend. Sometimes you have to step back while focus shifts on other things but that is ok because it will get you to where you want to be!
ReplyDeleteYou need to put yourself first. Blogging is a passion of yours, so I definitely don't think you should quit blogging completely! Just blog when you have the time and use it as a therapeutic escape from your schoolwork :)
ReplyDeleteThe only tricky part is the Sponsorships. I would probably cut back to sidebar only ads. I have also seen bloggers in the same sort of situation drop their ad prices for the time they know they will be unable to post as frequently.
I'm sure whatever you choose to do will work out...good luck!
I have seen this from a handful of Bloggers lately. I don't think you should quit the blog. You started it for a reason, kept it going for a reason and continue to inspire people for a reason. What if you met somewhere in a happy medium somewhere. Like maybe do 2 posts a week and have 1-2 guest bloggers a week. I'm sure there are a lot of people that would be willing to support your decisions and help you out with guest posting. Keep your link up as 1 of your 2 posts because you've grown it to be something amazing and I think people would miss it. Time management is key. Feel free to e-mail me if you need to talk about it or if you need to bounce some things off of a completely unbiased 3rd party. :) Whatever you decide, I'm sure everyone will understand and support you.
ReplyDeleteDo what's best for you! Even if that means posting a blog every week or so. It's okay to blog without having sponsors, so they won't be disappointed in you - find some button swap buddies instead! People read a blog because they like you (or your persona on the blog), they don't care about numbers. I'd rather comment on a blog with 17 followers than on a blog with 12000 - I want to get in touch, not support that super blogger's income! xo Anja @ cocalores.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteSometimes we need to prioritise things in place, yes we may miss you if you go. Maybe you could just post once a week. You can cut off the linkies to once a month. In the end its all up to you. But its really important u have enough rest and study well! Your readers will support you. (see above ^^) heh. I'm glad u post this because some bloggers just disappear. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting you mentioned how many a blogger has felt like they lost their perspective as it feels that way sometimes too. Some of the blogs I used to enjoy reading have turned into constant giveaways, link ups, sponsorships and they seem to lose their personality, originality and what made them special in the first place. Your blog is great I think you should follow your heart and just blog whenever you feel like it. Don't worry about sponsors or anything else for that matter. Do what's right for you and the rest will fall into place. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHI Danielle, you are so right! Your blog should be for you! And as for the posting, why not just post when you have time and when you have something you want to share with us? Not force yourself to post a certain number of times a week. I can imagine this puts pressure on you, and now is probably the time to think about yourself and make sure you are happy and reach your goals! As for the link-up, can you not just co-host or maybe have a rotable host/co-host like on of your sponsors or readers? Good luck!!! P.s. this comment is way too long!
ReplyDeleteDanielle, whatever decision you make, make sure you put yourself first. We love you & will miss you but ultimately it's your life and you don't want any regrets.
ReplyDeleteI totally feel the same way about blogging...we need to get back to the writing, IMO...
God has a great plan for you! Keep your head up, I'm sure He has the answers you need xoxo
Blessings,
Jacy
Head up chick...do what feels right for YOU.
ReplyDeleteR xx
This is your blog, so you get to make the rules, how cool is that? It's like being your own boss..so yes, we will all miss you if you take a step back, but sometimes other things are more important. Use blogging as a hobby and post when you want. As for Sponsors I advertise on 1 or 2 blogs that do nothing to promote me, but I still see the page views come through from that blog. That still might work for you, just depends on what kind of feedback you get from you Sponsors. I've drastically get back on my sponsors, just because of the work and time involved, so now I only have two feature sponsors a month, who I promote and by golly, that is so much easier then 20!!!!!! Enjoy this time you have before things get hectic! Happy decision making!
ReplyDeleteSomething I wish I had done when life got really busy and hectic for me was take some time away from things. A regular schedule, sponsors, required themes, etc. It was a lot of pressure to maintain it all while I life was busy. It ended up taking much longer for me to make the changes I needed to make to take place.
ReplyDeleteDo whatever it is that relieves the most stress from the situation. Take away (even if temporarily) anything that causes any of the worry like you mentioned and focus on what makes this blog space right for you. Most will understand and for those that don't - they're not the right kind of followers to have anyway.
First of all, WOW, that is quite a courseload. When I was getting my MBA I was only in one class for 6 weeks at a time and it was online and that was incredibly overwhelming. Your readers will be behind you 100% no matter what you decide because we read your blog because of YOU. Not what you can do for us. We just like reading about your life. So however you need to do that, whether it's to take a break for awhile, or only post once a week, we're here for you.
ReplyDeleteAs a reader, I will definitely miss your posts but as someone fresh out of school, I understand the huge amount of pressure you're feeling. I also feel the same way about goals and numbers and sponsors (and my blog is TINY!!) but I feel like somehow the focus is on sponsors and if you don't have them, then you aren't doing something right - obviously not a great feeling. I would say do what you WANT to do in terms of the blog. If that's one post a week, do that. I personally would love to keep up with you at least a little :)
ReplyDeleteHere's what I think about blogging: You don't want to be stuck behind your computer screen while life passes by. I'd also suggest not making any real decisions now. See how the move goes. See how the semester starts... I have a feeling that things will fall into place.
ReplyDeleteGood luck — and don't feel guilty about putting yourself first when it comes to the blog.
Danielle, you are wise to keep going with this thing as you can and get back to why you started it in the first place! I admire you for that. Seeing your blog take off and grow and watching you get involved in the community hasactually inspired me to work at my blog and connect with others more. So, thank you! Thanks for what you do here.
ReplyDeleteI know I will still follow. I will stil hang around to read and take part in whatever you have time for! Enjoy school and moving and LIFE and when you have time, let us know what's up, how you're doing, and what you are learning in life!
When it comes to blogging I personally feel that I'm in a never ending state of transition and constantly questioning my motives and goals. It seems quit obvious to me that you really care about this blog and the community that you built otherwise you wouldn't be so concerned. My advice is that only you can determine what you want and are able to take on. Also there are NO rules for blogging! You don't have to do it every day. You can limit your options for sponsors. You can pass off your linky parties to someone else until if or when you are ready to take them back. Don't forget that you can also ask for help! Just trust yourself and don't force it.
ReplyDeleteWe will all support you no matter what. Do what's best for you, dear :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thought-provoking post. I have enjoyed reading your blog, and I appreciate this post especially. I think that all your readers will understand if you cut back and focus on school. That being said, this awesome community of bloggers is not something to let go of, so even if you can only post once a week, I encourage you to keep going. As far as losing focus, I definitely can understand how that is an issue. As a new blogger myself, I have wanted to "build" my blog unto a blog that has tons of followers, when instead I should be focusing on what I want to give to the world. God bless!
ReplyDeleteaaaah, i was pre=pharm for a year. O-chem can suck it :) :)
ReplyDeleteListen, my friend.... You have this blog because YOU love it. It's not about anyone else. You can make it whatever you want it to be. if you want to delete it, then do. But do it for you, not because other people have set expectations of what YOUR blog should be. Sure, maybe you won't have sponsors anymore. And maybe you'll have a post a week, or some weeks nothing at all. But that's ok!! Don't give up something you love if you don't really want to. School is more important than trying to make other people happy with 7 posts a week!
I didn't know you were pre-pharm! What year are you in? Do you have an idea of where you want to go for Pharm school?
I would LOVE to learn more about you and your life adventures. I know that during law school there were times that I would go a week without posting anything. But when I did, all I really had in me was to post about life. I couldn't have managed the sponsors and giveaways.
ReplyDeleteI think blogging is a creative outlet. You can't study microbiology every single second (I wouldn't last ONE second). I'd miss your blog like crazy! But follow your heart. Maybe some time off will bring you new focus and have you itching to get your thoughts onto your keyboard :).
Let me know if you need anything!
Oh, Danielle, I'm so happy you shared your heart. I didn't read any of your other comments because I didn't want my answer to be influenced by them.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, YES, your readers would miss you. They would. But if you think you can manage trying to post once a week, why not? Even if it's just a photo or 2 of your cute self, how school is going, and what's new with life, that's awesome!
As far as Current Crush... when I was doing Thursday 13 each week, I felt too much pressure to get it done and out so people could link up. What about putting out a post and asking someone to take it over? You could narrow down who wants it and select someone... that's what I did. Just an idea there. It was a relief not to have to worry about it.
And honestly? Do what's right for you. We will be behind you every step of the way. Love you girlfriend! Just a little perspective b/c I have to get back to work :)
Way to go girlie! I'm so proud of you for writing this post! And it looks like you have an incredibly supportive group of ladies affirming that you're making the right decision - that helps, right?
ReplyDeleteBlog for yourself, not other people. Your life and your personal relationships are the most important, so do t feel guilty that those are a higher priority than your blog. Look at how many lovely comments you've received! All of us support you no matter what you do, and we'll still be here when you do write posts! Good luck with your school work and have a wonderful weekend:)
ReplyDeleteI completely understand what you are saying, and it is a very difficult choice to make. I stopped blogging for about a month after realizing that I felt as if I couldn't write about what I wanted. I had no intentions of continuing, but a creative outlet called to me, and I'm back and blogging about ALL the things that I love, not just some. I think that it is so important for all of us in the community to support each other and decisions that each of us make. See how you feel, and maybe add things back into your routine a little at a time. Even if you decided that you would write once a week, I would check in with you (and I know other readers would, too) because we love your blog and we are INSPIRED by it. You have inspired us more than you know, and we are here to help you and hold you up, not bring you down, no matter what you decide.
ReplyDelete:-) Hang in there, and I'll be checking in.
So true, I too had that feeling and stopped blogging and came back months later doing blogging what I really wanted, and now it doesn't feel like a chore :)
DeleteI am so proud of you! Real life still triumphs blog life contrary to popular belief and I'm glad that you are doing whats best for you :) You know i'll always be behind you 100% with whatever decision you make! I'll miss you but school is so much more important.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday Love!
I'm a new follower! Feel free to follow back, can't wait to see more cute ideas www.iheartpears.blogspot.com
ReplyDeletemakes total sense, Danielle, I've been thinking about some of this as well. I'm in it for the long haul, but there are definitely phases where things have to be different for a while, and I think that's ok. it's hard feeling pulled in so many directions, though, that is for sure!
ReplyDeleteDo what's right for you Danielle. =) If you're feeling the pull to make the changes, do it. And don't feel guilty about about!
ReplyDeleteOf course you'll be missed!!!
Enjoy your week off!
Well it looks like you struck a cord dear one :) While I love reading your blog I can't help but think that many in the blogging world are finding the pressure to do this "blog thing" the right way (myself included). I read a great post on this by the girl creative (now project inspired) and was convicted that real life people, my children and family are where my priority needs to be. I am not in this for the numbers and when blogging loses its fun it is time to rethink it :) I am reminded that two things kill creativity guilt and obligation. Your school year is going to be a hard one - know you are in my prayers - and while I will miss you blogging I won't hold anything against you :)
ReplyDeleteSo, so, SO incredibly glad that you tweeted me this link :)
ReplyDeleteIt's always reassuring to know that you're not the only one feeling a particular way!
Here's to us enjoying our free time! YES!
Have a wonderful week off, girl!

Wow. Had no idea you were a pre-pharm major! Taking O-Chem and Micro, like you said, not easy! I was a biology major and took 6 chemistry classes including both Organic Chem ! and Organic Chem 2 and Biochemistry. Being a science major is tough because of all of the labs. I wish you luck this semester and don't blame you for slowing down on the blog! Many well wishes, friend!!
