5 Things to DIY

Hey all! I'm baaaaack! As you all know, I took a little blogging break last week and it was just what I needed. I had some time to myself to get a pedicure, bake some goodies, read a book, and do some back-to-school shopping with Q. I also had lots of time to reflect on my goals for the blog and will be posting more details soon.

Speaking of the blog...I'm not sure how much I'll be around this week. Today and tomorrow will most likely be spent packing in preparation to move into my new apartment on Wednesday! I seriously can't believe there are only two more days left!!! I am so excited and nervous, but also ready to start fresh in a new place. Our place comes with all the furniture which is a huge plus! Yep, we get a couch, dining room table and chairs, nightstand, dresser, a desk, and so much more! So basically all we have to do is move in our stuff and make the place our own!

The past few weeks I've been going through my Pinterest boards trying to gather some ideas of how I can make our apartment cozy, fun, and inspirational without spending a fortune. I'll finally have a place of my own to decorate and I want it to reflect who I am and my personality.

Here are the five DIY projects I'm hoping to tackle in the next month...

1) Gallery Wall -- this has been something I've had in mind for a long long time now. I have this vision of taking one of the walls in my bedroom and covering it with amazing photographs, artwork, and inspirational prints. Okay, not the whole wall but a very large section. {Speaking of, if you have a shop that sells photos/art prints and would like to team up for a product review, shoot me an email! }

2) Gold Spray Paint -- I have a brand new can of gold spray paint sitting around here that could make for some really great projects. I love how a can of spray paint totally transforms boring, ugly things into shiny, pretty things! This is just one of the great ideas I've seen and loved.

3) Canvas Art -- I bought two canvases quite a while ago on sale at Michael's and have yet to use them. This is just one of the ideas that I found and really loved. It looks pretty simple too!

4) Entryway Table -- I absolutely love this color-blocked table, although I'm not sure if I'll go all out. However, my roommate Elizabeth and I have some great ideas when it comes to organizing the entryway table to hold our keys, phones, snacks for school, backpacks, etc.

5) Menu Planning -- not sure exactly how I want to do this one yet, but I know I want the menu for the week posted in the kitchen. Any suggestions? Do any of you plan your meals each week?

  2. Wow...I love the coasters and the DIY canvas art. So simple but I love the geometric shapes and fun colours. I'm more of a spur of the moment cooker rather than meal planner, but I've seen many coloured/framed chalkboards for meal plans. I suppose size and detail depends on your space. Have fun with it!

  6. I try to menu plan for at least two weeks, just general ideas if not full out recipes so we can get from payday to payday. Right now it's just on a piece of lined paper on the fridge, but I want something cuter. I can't find the original picture or blog, but I want to do a chalkboard menu on the wall similar to restaurants. In the original post it was next to a giant clock with a fork, knife, and spoon painted on the wall (with the clock as a plate). One day I'll have it!

  10. All of it is gorgeous. I have been meal planning for 4 weeks now and discovering a lot more food along the way. We're having a bit of a 'leftovers' week this week - ya know, the half eaten jars of olives.

    Good luck with the move.

  11. Sometimes a little break from bloggerville is like a breath of fresh air, don´t you think?! Great you had such a good time! Love the coaster idea and the table! Very fresh look!

  12. I love all of this inspiration! I just bought canvases to do the metallic polka dots...can't wait to get it done! This is probably obvious but we used chalkboard paint on one of the doors in our kitchen and I write the menu/current groceries on it. You could even use something a little more fun that traditional black. Good luck with the move!

  14. I love all of these, especially the entryway table! We need a new one, because we moved and our old one just doesn't work for the space, and this is a great idea!

    As for menu planning, we used chalkboard paint to create a mini chalkboard on one wall, and we use it for menu planning and reminders! It can get a little messy, but nothing 30 seconds of a wet washcloth every week won't fix! Kinda like a vintage-y restaurant feel :)
